Meet Our Puppy Placement Families
We are proud of the progress we have made in placing puppies with families that have applied through our Puppy Placement Program.
Our mission is to continue to assist families and individuals through this process as well as outreach.
Willow’s New Family
Aaron and Mary Haselhorst, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Mary and Aaron got married in May of 2022. Both are athletic trainers currently working at Universities. Aaron works at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Mary works at Marquette University. Shortly after their wedding they found out that Mary was pregnant. Due to this news Mary is looking to transition out of collegiate athletics and is currently pursuing jobs in the hospital/clinic setting. A little over two years ago they lost their 10 year old english bulldog, Captain. With where they are in life now they felt a puppy could be an amazing addition. They are active individuals who wanted to add a dog to their frequent neighborhood walks. As Aaron explained to us, “As your website states "Our passion for animals and our passion for helping others". This sums up Mary and I well as our jobs are all about helping injured individuals return to doing what they enjoy, and we would be proud to represent your organization and help continue spreading Macy's legacy to Wisconsin and have Willow be a regular visitor to the training room.”
Arlo’s New Family
Sina Nu’u, Hastings, Nebraska
Sina originally hails from Texas and currently is an assistant volleyball coach for the Hastings Broncos. She leads an active lifestyle that involves significant interaction with youth and collegiate athletes. Sina plans on having Arlo become a certified therapy dog to be around youth and athletes in the community as well as part of the Hastings campus life. “I love the purpose of Macy’s Way and the impact Arlo could serve to the communities I am involved in,” Sina said. We couldn’t agree more.
Moose’s New Family (formerly GusGus)
Kacie Hall, Seguin, Texas
Kacie is a 22-year old college student currently residing in Texas. She graduated in May of 2022 with her undergrad in elementary education and is pursuing her Masters degree in Special Education. She wants to be a High School Special education teacher or a 1st grade teacher in the future. She is also a High School Volleyball Coach for Veritas Christian Academy and a club volleyball coach at the Texas Tigers. Kacie told us, “I hope that the dog would be with me in my special education classroom with the students. I have a huge heart for dogs and love to be able to be there for people who need the help. I also have a heart condition that is not severe but I understand the difficulties a medical condition can impose on a life and family. I wish to bring joy to other athletes and special education kids with Moose. I plan to keep spreading Macy’s story to young adults in the classroom as well as in the gym setting along with the community. I plan on having Moose become a therapy dog for the special education students and athletes I coach.”
Kaia’s New Family (formerly Boo)
Krause Family, Omaha, Nebraska
The Krause family was nominated by a close friend of their family. The sudden passing of their father and Meg’s husband, Matt, the family also lost their beloved 13-year old lab in the past few months. As Dan explained in his application, “I don't hesitate in saying the Krause’s are one of the best families for a puppy and will provide an abundance of love to Kaia Boo.” Macy’s Way hopes that Kaia Boo helps in a small way as the family continues to attempt to find peace as they navigate their loss.
Blair’s New Family
John and Maggie McKew, Omaha, Nebraska
John and Maggie are newlyweds welcoming their first child in April 2023. John is an assistant coach on the Creighton Mens basketball team and Maggie, after a standout career at Creighton for volleyball, was recently an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Maggie now gives private lessons and operates her own business as they prepare for the birth of their first child. They hope to make Blair a therapy dog that can visit the local VA hospital, nursing homes and the Creighton campus in the hopes Blair can brighten the day for anyone he comes across. Maggie plans on visiting these facilities with John and her father, who is a confined to a wheelchair. We wish them the best.
Nelly’s New Family
Molly Trevathan & Tyler Mohl, Omaha, Nebraska
Molly is 28 years old and was recently an athletic trainer for the Creighton volleyball and rowing teams. Molly and Tyler live an active lifestyle and are around a lot of people due to the nature of their careers. With Molly’s recent job as an athletic trainer at Creighton, they hope to have Nelly be trained as a therapy dog that can help the athletes through injuries as well as mental health issues. “You can see it on their faces as soon as Nelly comes in. Some of these kids are homesick or struggling on their own for the first time,” Molly said. “It can be a lot, and having Nelly show up and just be there for these athletes can make such a difference in their day and in their mood. It matters.” Nelly was placed with Molly and Tyler on Macy’s 24th heavenly birthday. Molly is originally from St. Louis, Macy had her transplant in St. Louis and rapper Nelly is from St. Louis, hence the name. We think Nelly has found a perfect home to thrive and impact some lives.
